Minecraft!

Minecraft focuses on allowing the player to explore, interact with, and modify a dynamically-generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks. In addition to blocks, the environment features plants, mobs, and items. Some activities in the game include mining for ore, fighting hostile mobs, and crafting new blocks and tools by gathering various resources found in the game. The game's open-ended model allows players to create structures, creations and artwork on various multiplayer servers or their own single player maps. Other features include redstone circuits for logic computations and remote actions, minecarts and tracks, and a mysterious underworld called the Nether.

Minecraft is a wonderful game for those of us that used to spend countless hours a day building and destroying structures with Lego. It brings the feel of childhood back to those that are too stressed out from work and just want to build giant castles (or giant obscene things. Heck, you can even blow a bunch of mountains up through the use of TNT.


Minecraft also allows the creative ones to think up and build amazing structures (kind of like Legos did back in the day).

Pokemon Facts and Trivia!

Hello everyone,

Like the typical student, I find my self wasting time looking up random (and useless) facts about the original Pokemon series. Here are some of my favorites thus far:

Missingno, the infamous mystery Pokemon, first appeared in Red and Blue. If you did a certain cheat, he appeared near Cinnabar Island. He looked like some messes up sprite, and you could catch him. He learned water gun (He could learn it twice, and have two at the same time!) and fly. If he leveled up, he evolved into Kangaskan. This and the fact he appeared as a baby Kangaskan (the thing used for the move substitute) in Pokemon Stadium, many believed he was planned to be a baby form of Kangaskan, but was taken out. Others believed he was supposed to be a Flamingo, since he learned water and flying attacks.

I always admired Missingno but never had the guts to try to catch him let alone level him up.

This next one made me feel bad:

Remember that scientist in the Mewtwo movie, the one who says "We tried to clone the ultimate Pokemon, and we succeeded. Well, he actually had a back story to him. He wanted to clone his dead daughter, Amber, so he joined up with TR to get the money and help with Mewtwo cloning, hoping he could use it for his daughter. His daughter was friends with little Mewtwo, as well as some clones of Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander. The other clones expired, making Mewtwo sad and probably was one of the main points of his madness.






A large chunk of the remaining trivia involves the censoring and banning of many English dubbed episodes due to events such as 9/11 and due to hints of racial stereotyping (ie Jynx).

Pokemon The Series

So, instead of doing anything productive (i.e course work for college).

I decided to watch two animated shows that I used to love when I was younger: YuYu Hakusho and Pokemon!


A few thoughts about Pokemon:

Ash really gets picked on and just takes it (like when Misty said that only a stupid trainer would do that and Ash responds with "I'm a stupid trainer?")

And the funniest thing so far is towards the end of the episode where Brock joins the group and Brock refers Misty as "that strange girl following us."

 

 

It feels great nostalgic-ing to this stuff.

Giratina

Giratina is seen as the protector of the distortion world (the regular world's counterpart). The distortion world is needed in order to keep a balance in the Pokemon world.
I guess you're wondering why I'm making a post about Giratina.

Well this is why:
As you all already know in my first run through of the game I dedicated about 250 hours to beating the main story and catching a whole lot of Pokemon as well as having my collector's phase (with the shinnies and event Pokemon). Well these hours were only the recorded number of hours. What I mean by this is that I dedicated a lot of my time doing stuff "over." There exists a method to Soft Reset your game. Soft Resetting is pretty much a reset of the game without having to turn off the DS. One can soft reset by pressing L+R+Start+Select.

Okay back to Giratina. When I first saw the shiny form of Giratina I was  instantly determined to obtain it. I didn't want to accept any hacked or cloned shiny Giratinas so I was going to use the soft resetting method to randomly get it. The odds for getting a shiny pokemon naturally, however, is 1 in 8150. So I soft resetted about 8200 times and no shiny.

I was instantly discouraged after hours of soft resetting and decided that I would do it one more time.
So I did.
And what appeared was simply amazing. The dark transition into the battle, the energetic music, and most importantly, the normal colored Giratina. The battle was ON!! I accidentally killed Giratina though... so I had to turn off the game.

Don't worry though. I didn't really want that to be my last time doing it so I kept going and I finally got it after about another hundred soft resets and it felt great.

I'm bringing this up now because I'm at Giratina again and I'm contemplating Soft resetting again...
